Archbishop Sentamu Academy Celebrates Graduations

On Thursday 28 June 2012, the second group of students graduated from Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth Form at a Special Awards Service held at Bishopthorpe Palace.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu formally addressed the students, teachers and parents as part of the Award Service. He also jointly presented certificates and awards to the students with the Academy Principal, Andrew Chubb.

17 students have graduated with a range of BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in either Business Studies or Health and Social Care. All students are going on to positive destinations such as Further Education, Higher Education, Apprenticeships and employment. Students going onto degree studies are following a range of courses including Criminology, Early Years Education and Business Management.

Mr Andrew Chubb, Academy Principal, said: “We are thrilled that the Archbishop has again extended a welcome to the students and their families at Bishopthorpe to celebrate their successes. We are very proud of our students’ achievements, and are sure that they will have a truly memorable day at the Palace.”

The Archbishop of York added: “It’s wonderful to welcome back the graduating students, their parents and teachers to Bishopthorpe Palace for this second graduation service for the Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth Form.  My heartfelt congratulations go to the students and staff.  My prayer for all at the Academy is that you have the courage to have dreams that will transform not only your lives, but the lives of all those you meet, for the better. ”

Alison Mulqueen, Vice Principal and Director of the Sixth Form, said “This year group will always be a special year group in sixth-form history. They have achieved well academically and pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones by completing personal challenges in the Polish orphanage and the CatZero sailing voyage. They truly represent the spirit of the Archie sixth-form; academic achievement and the creation of well rounded, confident individuals who can face the world and be successful. Pushing the boundaries for themselves yet modelling to others that there is a big wide world out there and they’ve got a role in it.”

Graduate student Stephanie O’Connor said: “I am over the moon at my results and am really excited to be going to Bishopthorpe Palace to graduate.”

Graduate student Catherine Sugden said: “I was thrilled at my results, my family are so proud of me and are looking forward to Graduation Day.”

Graduate student Reece Bilton said: “I am overwhelmed at my results as I have achieved Level 2 and Level 3 Health and Social Care during my time at the Sixth Form. My mum is really proud of me graduating.”

Graduate student Gareth Pettman said: “I was completely surprised at my exam results. I enjoyed studying Business Studies at the Academy. I am excited to be attending a Graduation Ceremony at the Palace.”
