Sky Sports Living for Sport mentor Casey Stoney visits the Academy

On Thursday 11th April England and Great Britain’s football captain Casey Stoney visited the Academy. Casey is the England Ladies Football Captain!

Casey’s initial visit entailed giving an inspirational speech, to Meaux house during Collective Worship, about her life. Casey explained how her determination and commitment to being the best she could be has resulted in her amazing achievements to date. At one point in her life Casey couldn’t even afford football boots which fit, however this didn’t hold her back.

Casey then spent some quality time working with the ‘Living for Sport’ group. All the girls were given a signed photograph and got to see a match worn Great Britain shirt, the one Casey wore for the historic win over Brazil at Wembley during the 2012 Olympic games. Casey also allowed the girls to see her ‘gold cap’, gained playing for England for the 100th time. All the were girls left brimming with pride and ready to undertake the ‘Living for Sport’ project.

To top the morning off, Casey was invited into the Rock Challenge rehearsals to watch one of the scenes. After their excellent performance, Casey gave an inspirational speech to the performers and wished them well for their performance in the competition due to take place this coming Monday. Casey was full of praise for the students and later tweeted about the amazing dance rehearsal she had watched!

Casey will be returning to the Academy in May for a full day of events. During this visit she will be working closely with the ‘Living for Sport’ group. She will be helping the girls build their confidence, team work and communication skills.

It’s safe to say all that met Casey were truly inspired.

We look forward to Casey’s next visit!
