We talk a lot about Community in the academy so I thought I would post some verses from the bible relating to community. These describe some of the characteristic we will need to cultivate if we are to be a true community.


“Love one another.” John 13:34–3515:1217

“Owe no one anything, except to love each other.” Rom. 13:8

“May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all…” 1 Thess. 3:12

“For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.” Galatians 5:14-15


“Be at peace with each other.” Mark 9:50

“Live in harmony with one another.” Rom. 12:16

“And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” James 3:18


“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 1 Peter 4:9

“Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” Romans 12:13

“When you come together to eat, wait for one another.” 1 Cor. 11:33


“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…” 1 Peter 4:10

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Gal. 5:13

“Wash one another’s feet.” John 13:14
