Curriculum

The Curriculum

The Academy aims to develop the whole student. Through the moral, spiritual, cultural, mental and physical development of all students, we believe that each individual should be able to access to a full, appropriate and exciting curriculum. Our curriculum is classed as the programme of lessons and extra-curricular activities that students are exposed to whilst at the Academy. This includes the normal school timetable, the school ethos, all extra-curricular activities and what happens at break and lunchtime. We constantly seek ways to raise achievement, we aim to provide an environment which allows the needs of every individual to be met and to ensure everyone is able to flourish. Below is an overview of the curriculum but you can access more detailed information by viewing our curriculum booklets for each year group.

Sixth Form

Post-16 provision is intended to offer suitable courses to a whole range of students who might decide to come back into the Sixth Form. The number of students returning is high and the results from all areas show that the Sixth Form is highly successful

Courses offer students the opportunity to become reflective and independent learners. The number of BTEC qualifications is increasing each academic year as part of the 14-19 Curriculum. GCE A-Level Applied courses were introduced in September 2011. BTEC courses offered include Media, Sport, Health & Social Care and Art & Design. Level 2 course information is available on request from the Sixth Form office.

Students returning to the Sixth Form follow a General R.E. programme.
