Archbishop Sentamu Academy is at an exciting time in its development.  An 11-18 academy sponsored by the Diocese of York, we achieved “Good with Outstanding Features” in our OfSTED inspection in 2014, “Outstanding” in our section 48 SIAMS inspection, and have enjoyed four successive years of strongly rising exam results.  In 2013 63% of students gained 5+ A* to C including English and Maths, and 100% achieved 5+ A* to C (up from 29% in 2009). This had led to the academy being in the top 50 most improved schools nationally for two consecutive periods: 2009-2012, and also 2010-2013.  This year, we were also 108th nationally for achievement of students in receipt of the pupil premium.  Equally importantly, we enjoy success in sports and the Performing Arts; our students have won the National Rock Challenge competition twice, and students have taken part in sporting tours in both Spain and Australia.

Archbishop Sentamu Academy (ASA) is the lead academy in the Sentamu Academy Learning Trust (SALT).  The Trust sits at the forefront of the education agenda, bringing together ASA, an Alternative Provision Academy and three primary academies to form a powerful network, transforming education for young people in Hull.

Interviews:      26th March 2015

We currently have a vacancy for an inspirational Vice Principal. Reporting directly to the Executive Principal of SALT, this role will play a pivotal role in ASA’s continuing improvement journey. In February 2014 we were judged by OfSTED to be ‘Good, with Outstanding features’ and our ambition is clear – to be ‘Outstanding’ within the next two years.

With a focus on curriculum and progress, this is an exciting strategic role which will allow the successful candidate to make their mark in a professionally supportive, challenging and caring environment.

In return for this fantastic opportunity, we have some clear expectations:

  •  You’ll be passionate about continually raising the aspirations of pupils and staff;
  • You’ll maintain a relentless focus on those elements of Teaching and Learning, curriculum development and data analysis that will enable pupils to tackle GCSE exams successfully, and in so doing, drive up standards;
  • You’ll bring a proven track record of successfully balancing rigorous challenge and focused support to enable staff to deliver ever-higher levels of success for pupils; and
  • You will not be satisfied until all pupils are making better than expected progress across all subjects.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for Curriculum Development and Pupil Progress, as well as undertaking significant line management responsibilities for some subject leaders.  Further areas however may be agreed by negotiation, according to the skills of the successful candidate.

The role will be an outstanding preparation for further leadership.
