The Diocese of York is excited to be the sponsor of its first Church of England Academy. The academy opened in 2008 in the building of its predecessor school, Archbishop Thurstan School. We moved into state of the art new buildings in September 2011, at the heart of a learning village serving the community of East Hull. Archbishop Sentamu Academy aims to be a centre of educational excellence with a distinctive Christian ethos, striving to:
- Raise aspirations and achievement for all;
- Develop confident, open-minded young people; and
- Encourage love of learning, eagerness to succeed and willingness to participate.
“This will be more than just a school. Its students will come from the locality and be shown that what they can do for their neighbourhood is at least as important as what they can do for themselves. They will be taught that character matters more than celebrity. The Academy’s ethos will be Christian: open to all and for the benefit of all”. The Most Revd & Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu, The Archbishop of York (William Wilberforce Memorial Lecture, 30th October 2007)
Specialist Leader of Education – Physics, Chemistry and Biology (3 posts)
Archbishop Sentamu Academy is an 11-18 academy located in East Hull, and is part of the Sentamu Academy Learning Trust, which includes ASA itself, two Church of England Primary schools, and ASPIRE, the largest AP academy in the country set up by ASA in 2015.
ASA is at a most exciting point in its development. We have recently been removed from Special Measures, and have been judged securely “Good” in Leadership and Management, PDWB and Post-16 provision. Building on our strong and rapid improvement of the past 2 years, we are now aiming to be Outstanding by 2020. In order to achieve this, we are now seeking a Specialist Leader of Education in Chemistry, Physics and Biology (either fully-accredited or in training), who can drive further rapid improvement in this area.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in securing excellent GCSE results for their pupils, and will also have outstanding interpersonal skills. A track-record for delivering high quality outcomes in A level would be an advantage.
In return, you will receive a highly competitive salary, the opportunity to work as part of a strong and dedicated team of staff, and significant opportunities to develop further through assuming an academy-wide responsibility. Indeed, this career-defining move is a perfect platform for further promotion into senior leadership.
